Michelle Sturckler, O.D., obtained her Doctor of Optometry from Salus University in Pennsylvania in May 2023. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from SUNY Oneonta in New York in 2017. Dr. Sturckler’s externships included ocular disease at Northeastern Eye Institute in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Vermont VA Hospital, and primary care practice at Boardman Eyecare in Wysox, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Sturckler has been practicing optometry since 2023, specializing in primary care optometry. Her passion for optometry was ignited at the age of 5 when she received her first pair of glasses. What she enjoys most about being an OD is enhancing patients’ lives with the best vision possible and establishing connections by listening to their stories.

Dr. Roberts, a second-generation optometrist, graduated from Binghamton Central High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts at Ithaca College and a Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry. While studying at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, Dr. Roberts received several academic and clinical excellence awards. He is listed as an Honor Student and Noteworthy Practitioner by Beta Sigma Kappa, International Optometric Honor Society. He is a Diplomat of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, a Fellow of the Essilor Academy, a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the American Optometric Association Contact Lens Section, Sports Vision Section, and the New York State Optometric Association.

Dr. Roberts is listed in Who’s Who in Optometry and America’s Top Optometrists. He has served as the official optometrist for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Binghamton Devils, Binghamton Junior Devils, Binghamton University Bearcats, BCC Hornets, Dick’s Sporting Goods Open, and The Tri-Cities Opera.

Dr. Roberts and his wife Kathi reside in Vestal and on Hilton Head Island, SC.

Dr. Bakari Samin, O.D., completed his Doctor of Optometry degree at MCPHS College of Optometry in Worcester, Massachusetts. Prior to that, he earned his undergraduate degree in Combined Science with an emphasis in Biology from Texas Christian University in 2017.

Dr. Samin is originally from Houston, Texas, and has completed externships at various prestigious institutions, including the New Orleans VA, Broward Eye Care in Florida, Uphams Corner Community Health Center in Boston, and the Hershel Woody Williams VA in West Virginia. Dr. Samin’s interest in optometry was ignited by his mother, who is also an optometrist. His special field of interest is in Macular Degeneration, Diabetes, and other retinal diseases.

With many years of practice, Dr. Samin finds fulfillment in helping his patients. He is dedicated to positively impacting the community by giving others the ability to have a clear vision.

Brian Markowski, O.D. received his Doctor of Optometry from The Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2022. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Scranton in 2018. Dr. Markowski graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Accelerated Scholars Program and received the TEI Clinical Excellence Award. He is a member of Northeastern Pennsylvania Optometric Society and American Optometric Association.

Dr. Markowski provides comprehensive care to patients of all ages including treating red eye, ocular diseases, dry eye, and prescribing glasses and contacts. Dr. Markowski says he became an optometrist to provide a meaningful service to others. He enjoys building relationships with patients and helping them reach their optimal vision and eye health.

In his free time, Dr. Markowski enjoys golfing, watching sports, traveling, and trying new foods with his fiancé, Nicole.

Dr. Whinery has been at Roberts Eyecare Associates since the summer of 2018. He graduated magna cum laude and received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Dr. Whinery graduated magna cum laude from Youngstown State University in Ohio with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. His memberships include the New York State Optometric Association, for which he is the local chapter president and the American Optometric Association. While in optometry school, Dr. Whinery completed his externships at the Albuquerque Veterans Affairs Hospital in New Mexico and Oak Hill Eye Care in Austin, Texas.

Dr. Whinery grew up in Ohio and is a huge Cleveland Browns fan. He knows that this is their year. He played rugby for the Youngstown Steel Valley Men’s Club.

Dr. Michael Christensen grew up in Provo, Utah, where he earned his undergraduate degree in neuroscience from Brigham Young University. He then moved to Houston, Texas, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Houston College of Optometry. While in optometry school, Dr. Christensen completed a specialty contact lens internship and interned at the Salt Lake City VA Medical Center, where he routinely cared for patients with cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eyes, and diabetes. Dr. Christensen received several scholarships and awards as a student, including an award for excellence in medically necessary contact lens fitting.

Dr. Christensen and his wife, Keala, are excited to make their home in Broome County with their three children.
